Simple UI

We all love fancy, breezy UI.
But…
How practical are they?
- Do our fancy shades visible clearly in all devices? Specially in smaller ones?
- Is the contrast level sufficient for low ambient light and bright outdoor light?
- If you have a dark mode, does the contrast hold WCAG2.1 and APAC standard?
- Is the UI simple, intuitive? Can my 100 year old motor impaired, vision impaired grandma use the UI?
- Are the relevant items together and close enough and large enough? Can my 100 year old grandpa who uses screen magnifier can use the UI effectively?
- Can someone using screen reader while exercising get sufficient info from the UI?
- How are the button placed? Are they placed optimally for right handed people (88%)? What about left handed people (12%)? Is it possible to change button position based on user preference?
With these in mind, we should always design for -
- Visually impaired
- Color blind
- Motor impaired
- Poor eyesight
- Smallest screen
- Low ambient light
- High ambient light
- Screen reader
- Screen magnifier
- Left handed / Right handed
These simple steps can save us time and move us away from complexity in the long run.
